THE ROLE
Ancient + Brave is seeking a highly organised, detail-oriented Senior Science & NPD Assistant to support our innovation and product development functions. You will support our Director of Science and Innovation play a key role in ingredient research and sourcing, quality control support, scientific documentation, clinical and consumer trials and managing key consumer insight channels. This is a dynamic, cross-functional role suited to someone with a background in science, nutrition and product development, with a strong passion for the health and wellness industry.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
NPD Support & Ingredient Research
+ Work alongside the NPD Executive to research and evaluate innovative ingredients, suppliers, and formats for potential use in new products. This includes all products, including merchandise.
+ Support in compiling ingredient documentation and liaising with suppliers during the R&D process.
+ Lead and oversee all the testing processes and procedures. Updating all relevant documents, arranging samples, liaising with labs , flagging any concerns with key stakeholders and keeping accurate and thorough records.
+ Assist in managing product development timelines, testing phases, and data collection related to product efficacy and compliance.
+ Arranging tastings for specific batches of ingredients, following due process and getting sign off from key stakeholders.
Quality Control Coordination
+ Liaise with the Senior Quality Manager to support quality control processes across all products, including product testing.
+ Assist in reviewing specifications, certificates of analysis, and stability data.
+ Help ensure compliance documentation is properly maintained and easily accessible across departments.
+ Work closely with the Operations team to ensure seamless transition from NPD to Operations.
Scientific Support & Documentation
+ Maintain and update the Ancient + Brave Science Hub, our internal repository of clinical studies, NPD ingredient research, and technical product documentation.
+ Help ensure all scientific references and supporting material are current, well-organised, and ready for cross-team use.
+ Liaise with the Nutrition team to ensure science data is clear and accessible to support the Customer Support team.
Customer Trial & Data Collection (Inner Circle)
Support with community management of ‘The Inner Circle’, our exclusive customer trial programme for consumer studies and citizen science initiatives :
+ Collect feedback and qualitative/quantitative data from trial participants.
+ Supporting and liaising with the Community Manager to communicate with members to ensure high engagement and clear feedback loops.
+ Analyse and report findings to the Innovation team to inform product improvements or validate product claims.
+ Collaborate with academics and external laboratories, co-ordinating our clinical trial programme to validate product benefits.
+ Design and support market research, gathering market research data and consumer insights.
WHO YOU ARE
To be successful in this role, you will need the following skills / knowledge / experience:
+ A degree or equivalent experience in food science, nutrition, biochemistry, or a related field.
+ Process driven. Proven ability with project management. Able to manage multiple projects, track progress, and maintain high standards of accuracy across technical documentation.
+ Comfortable interpreting data and scientific literature; able to identify meaningful insights from customer trials and product performance data.
+ Able to liaise effectively across departments (e.g., Quality, NPD, Customer Support), and communicate clearly with external stakeholders and Inner Circle members.

Our Interview Process and What You Can Expect:
+ Application Review: We’ll start by reviewing your CV/application to ensure it’s a good fit for the role.
+ Initial Phone Call (circa 15-20 minutes): You’ll have a brief introductory chat with Ellie, our Talent Partner. We’ll discuss your experience, your career aspirations and explore how your values align with ours.
+ Video Interview (circa 30 minutes): The next step is a virtual interview with the hiring manager, via Google Meet. This will be an introductory conversation featuring experience-based and competency-based questions. It’s also a great time to ask any initial questions you have!
+ Interview Task: You’ll receive a task via email which you can prepare at home. This will form part of the discussion for the in-person interview. This will allow us to get a better understanding of your experience, skills and ways of working.
+ In-Person Interview (60-90 minutes): The final stage is an in-person interview at our Uckfield office. You’ll meet with the hiring manager and one other team member and present your interview task and answer competency questions. This is also your opportunity to ask us any remaining questions.
Please Note:
+ This role requires full time working at our stunning Uckfield/Lewes offices. Please apply only if you’re within a reasonable commute to East Sussex. There will be an option to work from home one day per week after successful completion of your probationary period.
